Occupy All Streets
Anonymous has announced Operation Unseat Lamar.

Lamar Smith is the sponsor of SOPA and the so-called Protecting Children From Internet Pornographers Act of 2011.

Both bills enforce internet censorship and create harsh punishments for copyright infringers.

Lamar Smith, the lead sponsor of SOPA, is at it again!
A U.S. House committee has approved a bill sponsored by Lamar Smith that would force Internet Service Providers to to keep track of and retain their customers’ information — including your name, address, phone number, credit card numbers, bank account numbers, and temporarily-assigned IP addresses.
ISPs would collect and retain your data whether or not you’re accused of a crime.
The bill was shamelessly dubbed ‘Protecting Children From Internet Pornographers Act’ despite having nothing to do with child pornography.
Rep. Zoe Lofgren of California, who led Democratic opposition to the bill said, “It represents a data bank of every digital act by every American [that would] let us find out where every single American visited Web sites.”
Sign the petition to tell Congress not to pass the bill. Texas, repeal this man already!

BREAKING!!!: Rep. Lamar Smith has WITHDRAWN SOPA from the House. SOPA IS DEAD!

Lamar Smith, the chief sponsor of SOPA, said on Friday that he is pulling the bill “until there is wider agreement on a solution.”

“I have heard from the critics and I take seriously their concerns regarding proposed legislation to address the problem of online piracy,” Smith (R-Texas) said. “It is clear that we need to revisit the approach on how best to address the problem of foreign thieves that steal and sell American inventions and products.”

SOPA is gone but lets not forget about PIPA and the more extreme ACTA

Lamar Smith Says SOPA Markup To Resume In February
For all the talk from some that SOPA was “dead,” it appears it’s alive and well and getting ready for its big re-entrance. Lamar Smith has just sent out a press release saying that he intends to resume the markup in February:

Stop Online Piracy Act Markup to Resume in February Washington, D.C. - House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) today said that he expects the Committee to continue its markup of the Stop Online Piracy Act in February. Chairman Smith: “To enact legislation that protects consumers, businesses and jobs from foreign thieves who steal America’s intellectual property, we will continue to bring together industry representatives and Members to find ways to combat online piracy. “Due to the Republican and Democratic retreats taking place over the next two weeks, markup of the Stop Online Piracy Act is expected to resume in February. “I am committed to continuing to work with my colleagues in the House and Senate to send a bipartisan bill to the White House that saves American jobs and protects intellectual property.”

There had been some talk that, due to Rep. Eric Cantor telling Rep. Darrell Issa that he would not take it to the floor, the bill was “dead.” But, we knew all along it was only “delayed.”
Especially given the Senate’s planned vote next week. This really is zombie legislation. It will not die… because some businesses that don’t want to adapt want to make sure it never dies.

THE Sponsor OF SOPA IS A COPYRIGHT VIOLATOR
Lamar Smith, the US Congressman who is the sponsor of SOPA, has violated copyright laws.
This is a screenshot of his official campaign website on July 24th, 2011:

This is the background image:

The image was traced back to DJ Schulte, the photographer who took it.
DJ Schulte was not credited and Lamar Smith did not request permission to use the image.
On DJ Schulte’s Flickr page the photographer calls out Lamar Smith for having his image used improperly (stolen).
He also expressed his opinion on SOPA:
“My take on SOPA: Unfortunately, our U.S. Congress is trying to take more control of the internet for large media corporations via the SOPA bill than actually protecting the rights of creatives and the work they produce. I have had images used improperly (stolen) by everyone from some guy in Pakistan to the Republican Women’s Club of Missouri to a Chinese firm selling my images in bulk so protection of rights is needed but the SOPA bill is not the answer. This bill is a control grab of the internet for the big entertainment corporations and will hurt an innovative and open internet where new ideas and art are shared and nurtured.”
